Local Aviation enthusiast Highlights the positive reasons of Lowflying.

Local Aviation photographer Martin Cole, has just returned from a trip to North Wales, to spread the word that lowflying does not always affect tourism. He was contacted by ITV to help them make a short film for the ITV network highlighting the positive role that lowflying can cause. Through his website  www.lowfly.net Martin organised for fellow enthusiasts around 23 in total to meet up in North Wales and by contacting the RAF, they were able to organise some traffic to participate in the proceedings. Former Headlands School pupil, Martin has been an aviation enthusiast since attending the Rosedale field centre while at Headlands School, where the thrill of seeing low flying aircraft gave him the inspiration to photograph them.

Wind turbines in East Yorkshire

Monday 18th September at the Far Grange park Skipsea was the setting of a forum with guest speakers Dr David Bellamy and Retired Air force officer Bob Graham . There have been numerous planning applications for wind farms in the East Yorkshire, the residents of Skipsea and Gransmoor areas where given the chance to listen to the alternative of wind farms.

The evening started with Dr Bellamy addressing the large audience which was estimated at around 350 people. The main points he stressed were that energy from wind technology is environmentally unfriendly and is only economically viable with the very large subsidies given out by the UK government . Bob Graham addressed the forum by explaining his background of electronics in the RAF and how he became involved in the protests regarding wind farms. Bob lives in the far north east of Scotland and has a wind farm within 10 miles of his house. Mr Graham explained in further detail regarding the economics of the wind farms, dismissing claims of job creation and how energy bills will be far higher.

Dr Bellamy recommended that the way forward for our energy requirements should be to concentrate on solar energy. He claimed that solar panels fixed to the Sahara desert floor measuring 25 thousand square kilometres would be sufficient to power Europe with no harmful gases causing damage to the ozone layer, for which he blamed western governments for trying to keep the poor in Africa in poverty by not following this route. A further example Dr Bellamy explained was that if every household in the UK changed just one bulb rated at about 100 watts for an energy efficient bulb and ran it for 3 hours per day it would save more energy than all the wind farms in the UK can provide.

The Residents of the Coastal area were given the chance to put their questions to the panel

Latest News.    Planning permisission for these wind turbines as been granted, further details to follow.
